About Us...

The Denton Community Food Center (DCFC) has been in operation without interruption for more than a quarter of a century, having first opened on October 14, 1974 in Denton, TX.  From the outset, its mission has been to supply food from one central community storehouse, free of charge and on a temporary basis, to people in emergency situations.

From serving less than 300 families in its first full year of operation the center has steadily expanded its service so that it is now serving more than 5,500 families a year within the Denton community.

Non-Profit...

The Denton Community Food Center is an indpendent, non-profit service agency that is enabled to accomplish its mission entirely through the donations of individuals and organizations throughout the community.  These contributions are either in the form of food items or money used to purchase additional food so the clients receive a varied and nutritional supply.

DCFC's current facilities are provided by the Denton Housing Authority.

All-Volunteer...

The Denton Community Food Center is staffed entirely by volunteers.  A Board of Directors oversees the efforts of volunteers numbering from fifty to over 200 volunteers.

In addition to directly assisting clients, volunteers' activities involve collecting and sorting food donations, maintaining the stocks of over 60,000 pounds of food on hand at any one time, and packaging the food for distribution.  Currently through the actions of the volunteers, over 250,000 pounds of food are given every year to members of the community requesting assistance.
